COSTUME CONSTRUCTION
The only parts of the pattern I used for this costume are the shirt and skirt parts. Follow the instructions for the shirt exactly. In order for the skirt to hang longer in the back and shorter in the front you first need to finish sewing it together as instructions direct. Once the skirt is sewn together lay it on its side with wrong sides touching. Be sure that the skirt is fully stretched out and that there are no wrinkles in the bottom part of the skirt. Take your scissors and make your first cut 7 inches (or however short you would like it) above the bottom, gradually cut towards the bottom hem to the other side of the skirt. This way when you unfold it, it will be equally cut on both sides, gradually becoming longer at the back.
For the waist clincher I bough a cheep one at Wal-Mart and sewed 4 strips of white 2 inch wide ribbon down the front. The top of the waist clincher has two layers of lace sewn around it. Be sure to use a stretch stitch when sewing on the waist clincher. I tied two large bows and hand stitched them at the bottom of the white ribbon strips. You can place little details in the middle of the bows like flowers or jewels.
ACCESSORES CONSTRUCTION
The headdress is a simple arrangement of flowers, black lace and white wedding tulle. The headdress is based on a circler piece of black cotton about L-6 inches W-4 inches in diameter . Cut out a long strip of wedding tulle (about a yard in a half), and gather it with a stay stitch on your sewing machine. Then sew it around the outside of the black circle, sew the black lace on top of that. Use super glue to place your flowers on top. Sew two long ribbons on both sides of the circle, this way you can tie it underneath your neck or behind your hair.
For the matching necklace cut a strip of the white polyester fabric that is L-9 inches W-2 inches, sew under each side of the strip for clean looking edges. Cut the black 1-inch wide ribbon 23-inches long. Sew middle of the black ribbon down the center of the white strip. This way you can tie it round your neck. Add lace at the bottom of the white strip and super glue the butterfly to one side. Bingo! A easy necklace that matches your costume perfectly!
The little black leather kit gloves was a gift from our grandmother. The black and white thigh highs and garter belts (click HERE to buy garter belts) (click HERE to buy thigh highs) were bought at Hot Topic. We found the perfect pair of black high heal "maryjane" shoes with white details on them. Little ankle boots would look really cute with this style too!
