Hello! My name is JoEllen Elam, but my online handle is 'Lillyxandra'. I work as a costume designer and make-up artist living in Los Angeles, California.
I started cosplaying in 2002 along with my sister, but my passion for dressing up started long before I even knew of the word "cosplay". As little girls, we would dress up in our Mother's nightgowns and make-believe we were mythical maidens. Through the years, each Halloween we would look forward to creating costumes.
When I discovered cosplay, I viewed it as another chance to enjoy that excitement!
I originally taught myself how to sew in order to create costumes for anime conventions, but I never thought that cosplay would help shape my career the way it has! Since 2002, I have created over 100 costumes for customers, friends and myself. I've picked up a few techniques and tips from interning with fashion designer Vannessa Riley, as well as working for the costume department at University of North Texas. However, for the most part I taught myself through trial and error and learning to read patterns. It just goes to show that you can learn anything if you really push yourself!
My work has been showcased in many magazines around the world, including Japanese Magazine "CosMode", Mexican Magazine "Cosplay Mix", United Kingdom Magazine "Cube", and French Magazine "Kogaru" as well as numerous website. I've been a guest at conventions across the U.S. and beyond to share my knowledge and love for the craft.
