• Welcome to Firefly Path!

I have this silly habit. With every person I meet I imagine what they might look like in the faerie realm. As I begin to know them better their fay features become more evident to me. This is the way I design fantasy costumes, enhancing or contorting their attributes. Lifting the veil to reveal their own otherworldly beauty and enchantment they possess. There is a place somewhere between waking and sleeping where faeries play. In this twilight hour we can pass through to their world and in that short time we might be able to enjoy their glamor and learn the secrets of their society.
I hope you enjoy the journey through these costumes I create, the lore I weave, and the images the photographers have captured. Every stitch that has been sewn, every bead that shimmers helps tell the faerie's story. During the growth of Firefly Path my life has been a faerie tale. I've traveled the world with my wonderful friends to capture these mystical creatures on film. Seeking them out in castle ruins, perched in desert canyons, finding them in lush rain forests, hidden inside an ancient bathhouse, gracing palace courtyards and through it all I've learnt that dreams really do come true and I am so very happy to be sharing mine with you.

Indigo & Lavender Masquerade Fairy Progress

The entire Masquerade Fairies shoot is up! A very special thank you to Indigo, Vani, Adella, Brittany, Paul, and Demir for being so helpful and talented. It’s one things to have a dream but it’s only a dream with out the help of these amazing people to help it come true <3 Indigo made a indepth blog about our shoot with a behind the scenes HD video!

2/25/10
Yay! The shoot went great! We were rained on when we first arrived and decided to reschedule the shoot for another day. When we were on our way back to the cars the clouds parted and the sun came back out! Indigo is processing the photos and behind the scenes videos now. I have a hand full of photos to show but soon the entire set will be available <3 2/20/10 The make-up test with Vani went well! I used urban decay's "flash", Majolica Majorca's lavender, MAC's "stylin'" and for glitter MAC's "reflects duo purple. For Adella's hair I went for a Grecian style with her natural hair! Not sure yet what I'll do for her make-up, something natural would look pretty.

I’m packing up today and heading to Brittany’s for a sleep over! Tomorrow morning we drive to San Diego for the shoot! I’m so excited I just hope it does not rain *fingers crossed*

2/18/09
I’m just about done with the costumes! Yesterday I spent all day making two sets of wings. right now they are drying in my bathroom πŸ™‚ Today I focused on accessories. I made a bouquet of wisteria and daises, earrings to match the beading on the neckline, nails to match each costume and bought Japanese lashes for the girls. <3 I love all those little girly details. Tonight I'm running a make-up test with Vanessa and trying out a hair style for Adella.
Work work work!!

2/15/09
I’m so excited this weekend I will be having my friend’s Vani and Adella modeling my faerie gowns for a photoshoot with photographer Indigo! I actually planned this shoot about two years ago as part of the Masquerade Faerie Collection. This will be the last shoot to wrap up the series. It’s hard to believe that I made Vani’s Purple Masquerade dress so long ago. This week I will be making the wings to finally finish the costume. In addition to the shoot I have asked Adella to model another purple gown. I am altering a wedding gown to fit the purple/lavender theme. Vani’s colors will be darker colors of purple and violet while Adella’s will be light purple and lavender. I’m so excited to see how the two will contrast each other!

First I dyed the gown using a mixture or petal pink and royal blue Rit Dye.

I have been making organza flowers to sew on the dress

I though the neckline could use some beading

Ill post more on my progress this week!

Crafty Blog Intro & Spring Faerie

Where to start?! I’m always in the mist of juggling several different costume projects, whether it’s working on a custom order for a customer, buying wardrobe for a play, sewing fifty toad stool hats for a web series, or designing costumes for photo projects. Life as a costume designer & seamstress in LA is always hectic. I hardly have a day where I can say “I’m so bored”, and when I do, I revel in those days! You know you’re busy when you have to schedule days to have a date with your own boyfriend with whom you live with, haha. What’s funny is that you’d think that I’d be rolling it in! But truthfully I barely get by with the money I make from following this crazy dream of mine. Life is an adventure and I would not change mine for anyone else!

I’m starting this blog to give my viewers and fans a peek into my crazy life, and my process of creating. I’ve received countless e-mails and messages from people from around the world who are curious about how I make things. There have been so many people who have taken the time to express to me how seeing my costumes have inspired, moved and brought a little magic into their lives. I am constantly overwhelmed by gratitude from people about my work. I hope this blog can help others with their own creations, or at least be entertaining to read ^_~

So right now one of the projects I’m working on is designing and creating costumes for a festival called “Festival of the Faeries”. This is a new event for the residents of Topanga Canyon, California and surrounding cities. I have been brought on the project as one of the art directors, wardrobe, and planning the children events.

We are still having meetings to nail out the designs for the crew, but I have a pretty solid idea of what I’ll be making for myself. The goal is to make faerie costumes that are bright and captivating for children to behold, easy to move around in all day, comfortable, washable, and most important… pretty!

AS with most of my original costumes, I like to make an inspiration collage. Some of the strangest things inspire me sometimes. Jewelery, colors, fabric, found objects in nature, dreams… always keep my eyes open for that spark of creativity. For this costume, my inspiration comes from a scene from the animated film “Whispers of the Heart”. A flower fairy appears as part of an ornament in a clock. I always loved that part in the movie and thought her dress was so cute!

springfay
Soom doll, jewelry, flower fairy, taking element from each of these and making it my own!

This is my sketch. The costume may not turn out exactly like this, but it helps me define what I’m going for.

Fabric
I found this fabric on sale in the LA fabric district. I’m thinking of doing a gradient dip dye fading from a yellow green to grass green at the hip. I love the organic cut pattern of it. I’m thinking of lining it will a nude color to make it look as if I’m wearing nothing underneath it.

My next step will be purchasing the rest of the fabric and drafting a pattern from my basic block!

So that’s it for now! I’ll be posting other projects as well. Please feel free to ask any questions. I hope this can be a learning experience for you all!

Cosmode Issue 22 Photo Feature

Kyle, Ginny, Matt and I drove out to a abandoned gold rush town 1 hour outside Vegas. We ran into some…well, lets just say…interesting onlookers. I sometimes forget that not everyone knows what cosplay is. So, while they were grabbing a few shots of Matt, I’m at the back of the van putting on my armor for Sophitia. Two very homely characters drive up to me, roll down the window, and give me a huge smile (I swear they had about 5 teeth between the two of them). The passenger laughs a little, slowly lifts up a disposable camera, rolls the film wheel, clicks one picture then drives off. I was like …..did that just happen? Ohhhh then it gets better! After those two lovely gentlemen drive off, a beat up old van with an entire family are the next to stop by. One guy rolls down his window so that I can see his kids in the back and asks “Ya’ll shooting porn?” *sigh*

Besides the creeps it was a lot of fun! Cosmode in my opinion is the best cosplay magazine, it was a big honor to be featured in it along side the man I love <3 If you want a copy of Cosmode Magazine you can buy it at Cosworx

blueheart - October 7, 2010 - 11:06 pm

I picked up that Cosmode and smiled! It was one of the few Cosmodes with American cosplayers in it <3

And you both look lovely ^^
