The idea for this gown came to me in a dream during my time making the mermaid costume for Lime Crime cosmetics’ “Aquataenia” campaign. I dreamt of a mermaid breaching the water’s edge at night to gaze at the full moon. The princess of the moon noticed the young mermaid admiring her beauty. Because she was so innocent and beautiful, the moon princess gifted her one night to walk on land, and bestowed upon her a gown fashioned from the most precious materials from the moon.
The gown is very inspired by Sailor Moon serenity gown. The silhouette is very similar from the empire waist to the puffy sleeves. I used the same sequins and pearls as the Aquataenia mermaid to tie in the themes. I love using the iridescent layers of sheer organza over the pearl fabric skirt, they remind me of moon-reflecting waves crashing and receding on the beach.
Doe wore the gown at the “IMATS” convention, alongside the the Aquataenia mermaid at her Lime Crime booth. Pure magic!! For the shoot we lit up a silver tree and added ground fog to create that “magical forest” feel. I could not be happier with the way the shoot turned out! It’s a combination of my dream, and all my favorite 80′s movies combined! Doe is truly a living fantasy girl come to life!

What’s under her eyes? Is it glitter or a special kind of make up? This soot is fantastic, truly magical.
