How to Make a Mermaid Bra

This was a custom order for a mermaid top. This style gives more coverage while still being organic and feminine. Start with using a nude colored bra. I used crinkle silk pulling it over the bra cup hand stitching to secure. To create a watery look cut several strips of fabric gathering a ruffle to add to the bottom and top of the bra. For the band that wraps around the body you want to make sure it remains stretchy. Sew several layers of ruffle vertically to cover the band. I added several pearls and plastic flowers scattered through out. For the plastic shells I first drilled tiny holes along the edges so that I could stitch it to the bra. I then spray painted and glued rhinestones using E6000. For being such a small garment this was incredibly time consuming considering that the whole thing was made by hand!  I hope this helps give you ideas for your own projects!

How did you spray paint the bra to be gradient like that?! I’m gonna have to do the same with my plastic shell bra and I could use some tips as I’ve never spray painted before. Thank you.
